CAUSES FOR REJECTION:  Improperly labeled; specimen hemolyzed; specimen clotted; collection tube not filled to minimum volume; specimen greater than 24 hours old..

STORAGE:  Maintain specimen at room temperature.

USES:  Evaluation of erytropoietic activity; aid distinguishing between hypo- and hyperproliferative anemias; assess blood loss, bone marrow response to anemia, and therapy for anemia.
