USES:  Panel of serological tests performed to detect exposure to pathogens involved in acute, congenital and intrapartum infections.

REFERENCE VALUES:  Negative for antibodies to TORCH pathogens

METHOD:  

DESCRIPTION AND COMMENTS:  TORCH is an acronym to TOxoplasmosis, Rubella, Cytomegalovirus, and Herpes simplex, all pathogens associated with congenital or neonatal infections .  These infections are not clinically apparent and may cause severe central nervous system impairment in newborns.
